Invitations for the spring 2012 Commencement will be mailed on April 1st. It will be necessary to confirm your attendance. Graduates from the preceding summer and fall terms and current spring semester are eligible to participate in the spring Commencement ceremonies.
COMMENCEMENT GUIDELINES AND PROTOCOL
The College of Architecture and the Arts graduation is a formal ceremony. All students participating in Commencement must purchase a cap and gown in advance of the ceremony. Caps and gowns will be available for purchase in the UIC bookstore.
Students, please assemble in the parking structure adjacent to the Pavilion no later than 6:30 p.m. Instructions indicating your place in the graduation procession will be available at that time. The procession of graduates begins at 6:45 p.m.
The Readers at graduation attempt to pronounce each graduate’s name correctly. If you wish to indicate correct pronunciation of your name for the Reader, please provide your name, degree, telephone number, and a phonetic spelling of your name on an index card to the Office of Student Affairs, 208 Jefferson Hall, no later than April 30, 2009. Undergraduate and graduate degree students are individually recognized as degrees are conferred.
Graduates are to remain in their assigned seats and stay for the entire ceremony, approximately two hours.
All graduates will receive a proxy diploma at the graduation ceremony. Official diplomas will be mailed to the home address of graduates approximately three months after graduation. Diplomas will be issued only after all academic obligations have been met.
A photographer from UICPhoto will take individual photos as the diploma is presented to each graduate. Photos from the ceremony will be available for viewing and purchase online.
Videos of the ceremony will also be available for viewing and purchase online.
There are no tickets for the graduation ceremony. Guest seating at graduation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The procession of graduates begins at 6:45 p.m. It is recommended that guests arrive early for the best seating. Pavilion doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Requests for special accommodations for guests should be made to the Office of Student Affairs at least two weeks prior to the ceremony.
